August: OC League Round Up D9 - D12
Adamstown II and North County IV are slugging it out for the title in D9. Both teams have pulled away from the rest of the league and barring some unlikely turn of events both will be promoted. Who takes the title may well depend on the head-to-head at the end of August in Inch. Everyone else in the league looks to be fighting to avoid relegation. Although there is a reasonable spread in percentage terms between the teams [from The Hills on 57% to Sandyford II at 32.67%] this can easily change as the number of wins between the all the teams involved is either two or three. No team is safe so every match will count as the league unfolds.
There are not many leagues where four teams are running at over 73%, but this is the case with D10. Slieve Bloom and Railway Union V are still first and second but they have been pulled back by the chasing pack i.e. Dundalk and Swords. Any one of these teams can still win the league and / or gain promotion. At the other end of the table Longford II [notwithstanding a good win yesterday] and Ringcommons are in trouble, with the latter yet to win a match this year. Both have suffered from points deductions by the OCC.
YMCA V and Castleknock II would seem to have the outcome of the title and promotion in D11 to be sorted out between them. YMCA V have a comfortable 10% point lead at the moment [although Casteleknock has a win over Merrion VI yesterday to be taken into account] but the teams have yet to play each other. Back to back fixtures at the end of August and beginning of September will determine the league. At the other end of the table [or rather the bottom five] all the teams have either two or three wins [following Civil Service III’s victory over Rush III in the bottom of table clash yesterday]. Another league where no team can afford to rest on its laurels.
Adamstown III are way out on top in D12 and haven’t lost a match all season. Since the last checkpoint they have pulled even further away from the next three teams - The Hills IV, Merrion VII and Cabinteely - the nearest of which is 15% points behind. Unless they badly slip up the title is theirs - but the battle for the second promotion spot could go to the end of the season. North County V and Halverstown are struggling for wins at the bottom of the table, with Malahide V also in the danger zone. A win for North County over Malahide yesterday won’t have helped their cause any.
